This is Steve and his new fiancee Barb at a banquet in the fall of 1999. She is a former model from Arizona but she works in public relations now. They were introduced by a mutual friend about a decade ago, but only have been dating since fall of 1998. Barb is 31 and was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Spring of 1999. Steve and Barb ran in the Provo Freedom Festival 10K race together this July and he ran slowest in his age group just to stay back with her and keep her company.

I thought that was sweet, especially since Tom, his brother, ran just ahead of his own wife to beat HER to the finish line. How RUDE! But, sounds like a typical husband; once you marry them, the chivalry is all over.

This is right after Steve threw that wonderful bullet to Terrell Owens and he caught it, and the Niners finally beat the PACKERS! After the game the QB's always meet up in the middle of the field, shake hands, and congratulate each other.

HERE COMES THE BRIDE,
all dressed in white, stepped on a turtle,...
am I the only one that knows that song?

March 14, 2000 Kona Hawaii Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

They were the first couple married in the that temple, which had recently been dedicated.

Steve kept the wedding ring in the hotel safe but lost the key, so the hotel had to call a safecracker to break into it and get the ring.
They had a ring ceremony on the beach in the evening. Mormons don't exchange rings during the temple ceremony; in fact when I got married in 1988 they wouldn't allow you to have a ring ceremony later even, it was considered too secular. We just slipped on our rings on the way out of the temple without any special thought to it.
Not sure what Steve is holding in his hand.
They played the Hawaiian Wedding Song, you can listen to it here if you really really want to. It IS very sweet and just right for Steve----listen to the lyrics.

They stayed for a few more days in Hawaii, then left for Tahiti on a six week around-the- world-honeymoon. When they got to Tahiti, they went to the wrong hotel and then found out their room had been recently fumigated....

This is a lousy-quality photo of Steve and a BYU trainer, Ollie, at the BYU training facility. Steve works out at BYU in the off -season, other than this summer, when he was working out at the Niner facility. Ollie passed away recently. I don't know when this photo was taken, sorry.

Steve may have been offered the Monday Night Football announcing job and has until June 10th to decide whether to accept that, stay with the Niners or become the Denver Bronco QB. Bill Walsh backtracked on his statement of June 5th and said June 6th Steve COULD be a Niner this fall, if Dr. Gary Steinberg OKs him (which is doubtful). Steve appeared June 6th and said he was only asking Mike Shannahan what Mike thinks Steve should do, that he was NOT in negotiations with the Broncos. (yet.)

The Niners are now saying that Steve will announce his retirement on June 12th. He will be busy the rest of the year anyway; Barb is expecting 'a family' as Steve puts it, in December; (A 'family'? Does that sound like more than one baby? hmmm......)

I hope he ends up announcing on Monday Night Football or gets a job as a BYU line coach. Just my opinion. :-) No matter which, I will keep this page up on the web. Tabby
